Galaxy A70 Coming To The US Via Verizon First

In the past, Samsung has limited its presence in the US smartphone market to its top-end premium flagships. The reasoning, perhaps, was that these were the only ones that would sell in such a primary consumer market. Times have changed, however, and so have consumer tastes and budgets. Samsung has finally made available a couple of its Galaxy A series phones in the US and it seems that it isn't done yet for 2019. The Galaxy A70 is reportedly launching soon but it might be a little too late to make an impact.

On its own, the Galaxy A70 isn't too shabby for a mid-range Samsung phone. It boasts of a rather stylish design, if you considering having a waterdrop notch on its 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED screen stylish. Instead of Samsung's own Exynos chip, the phone is actually powered by a Snapdragon 675 paired with 6 GB of RAM. The 4,500 mAh battery is actually impressive, especially when considering the 25W super fast charging tech.

Where the Galaxy A70 becomes a bit less convincing is the cameras. Sure, the 32 megapixel main sensor, 8 megapixel ultra-wide camera' and 5 megapixel depth sensor aren't all that bad and the 32 megapixel front camera is actually quite big. The slight problem is that Samsung announced a slightly updated Galaxy A70s with a 64 megapixel main camera which makes the Galaxy A70 look old.

Unfortunately, that could be on par with Samsung's strategy of throwing things and seeing which sticks. And unless consumers were actually aware of the Galaxy A70s' existence, they might very well think that the Galaxy A70 is the highest in the A series of phones.

Samsung has made no announcement yet regarding the phone's US availability but the Galaxy A70 was spotted at the FCC earlier in October. SamMobile seems confident that the phone will land first with Verizon before becoming available from other carriers and retailers. Price details are also unknown but it wouldn't be surprising to see in the $400 to $450 range.
