Fortnite Driftin' LTM Removed To Address Player Complaints
Epic Games recently released Fortnite update 7.40, adding a new Limited Time Mode (LTM) called Driftin'. This mode features a new type of vehicle called the Driftboard, which is essentially a snowboard with a fancier design. Though the item is a fun addition to the game, players have had numerous complaints about the new mode, prompting Epic to pull the LTM while it makes some adjustments.
The Driftboard was first revealed back in December, but was delayed and, finally, launched earlier this week in Fortnite 7.40. In this Limited Time Mode, players are grouped in teams of 32 and tasked with finding Red Supply Drops that contain items, including Driftboards. Unlike other modes, Driftin' LTM doesn't feature ammo boxes or chests.
When on the Driftboards, players experience a health and shield increase, which gives them a good reason for staying on the vehicle. Epic made it possible to stay on the board while reviving another player or picking up items, the big exception being the inability to build structures while on the board.
Though it's a great twist to the typical game play, players have expressed some issues with the LTM in its current form. Among the feedback are reports from players that the storm moves too fast in Driftin', meaning almost certain death if the player doesn't have a Driftboard to escape. Depending on where the player is located, it's possible the storm may still eliminate them before they escape even with a Driftboard.
In addition, many players have complained about an inability to get a board at all, resulting in frustration and excessive eliminations. In a statement today, Epic said, "We've noticed feedback around the Driftin' LTM and agree it could use work."
The Limited Time Mode was removed from the game temporarily at 3PM ET so that changes could be implemented. The company didn't say what changes it plans, however, and there's no firm return date. Epic expects to restore the Driftin' LTM in Fortnite "in a few days," but no other info is available at this time. The Driftboard item remains live in Team Rumble.
