Fortnite Competitive's Future Detailed: Champion Series With Season X
Epic Games has detailed its future plans for Fortnite competitive, revealing its new 'Fortnite Champion Series' kicking off with Season X. The new tournament series will take place in-game, according to the company, starting on August 17. Among other things, players will have the chance to qualify for the Season X Championship.
The Fortnite Champion Series will run for five weeks during which time teams will compete for prizes and possible qualification for the Season X Championship. The first tournament in this series will take place on Saturday, August 17, and Sunday, August 18. Players will compete for 'dedicated prize pools,' according to Epic.
The Fortnite Champion Series will feature a persistent leaderboard on which players will be able to track their progress, which is key to progressing to be the Seasonal Champion for their server region. Epic plans to kick off the Champion Series with a Trios mode.
On September 20, 21, and 22, the top-scoring teams from those server regions will get the chance to fight each other, with only some ultimately getting the honor of being regional Season X Champions. Each of the Champion Series events will have their own prize pools adding up to 'millions of dollars in prizes,' the company said.
If you're not up for competing in the major event, Epic also revealed that it will have 'smaller tournaments' to offer more consistent competition opportunities. Starting on August 21, Epic will host a single day Solo Cash Cups event. Anyone who is at Contender level or higher in Arena will be able to compete in the Wednesday Cup.
On the Thursday after that, Epic will require players to have a Champion status to participate. Trios Cash Cups will kick off on August 23 and run on Fridays. Finally, Epic has introduced Fortnite Spotlight, a tournaments series intended to 'shine a light on events organized and led by members of the passionate, talented, and creative Fortnite content creator community from all over the globe.'
