Fortnite Adds 'The Block' Over Risky Reels To Showcase Creative Maps

Yesterday, Epic Games announced a new addition to the map called "The Block" where player creations will be showcased for everyone to experience. The company followed its trend of dishing out surprises by launching The Block live in-game during The Game Awards 2018. The Block is a 25 x 25 space that dropped on top of the spot formerly known as Risky Reels.

On December 5, Epic Games added a new mode to Fortnite called Creative, a Minecraft-like world in which players can create their own island maps. Creative mode is available to all players who have purchased the Battle Pass, and now Epic is providing them with a new potential way to get exposure.

Yesterday, Epic took the wraps off The Block, a new addition to the battle royale map that looks like a flat slab of concrete. According to the company, it will use this spot to showcase some of the "most exciting and imaginative" island maps created by players in the Creative mode.

The Block dropped onto Risky Reels, the often ignored named locations in one of the corners of the map. To start things off, the 25x25 tile space will remain flat and barren. When Epic picks a Creative map to add, it'll add things like vehicle spawns and chests, meaning players don't need to include them in their creation. There's also a couple requirements.

Firstly, Epic says that players hoping to get their maps featured will need to make sure they are no more than 25 x 25 tiles in size, which is necessary to make sure they can be placed on The Block. As well, Epic requires that the map's "Memory Used" amount be kept at less than 50,000; larger maps will be too big to deploy on the spot. The company says it will be improving and evolving the spot over time.

Players hoping to get their maps chosen should share them on social media using the #FortniteBlockParty hashtag.
