Fortnite 7.40 Update Drops Feb 14: Here's What To Expect

On Tuesday, Epic said that it had to delay the Fortnite version 7.40 update originally scheduled for release early Wednesday morning due to an unexpected issue. The company didn't say at the time when players could expect the update to arrive, but now we have the answer: early tomorrow morning. What can you expect after updating? A new weapon, new challenges, and more.

Epic said the Fortnite version 7.40 update will be released at 4AM ET on Thursday, February 14. When it arrives, there will be a brief period of downtime, after which point players will be able to download the release and enjoy (or complain about) the changes.

What to expect

We'll only know the full version 7.40 changes after Epic publishes the patch notes tomorrow. However, the company has given a couple previews of what players can expect, including a new Infantry Rifle weapon currently listed on the in-game news feed. Details about the weapon haven't been released yet, but we do know it will sport a classic design.

In addition to at least one new weapon, players will find a couple changes to existing weapons that may not be liked by all players. The notoriously powerful Hand Cannon will experience a structure damage reduction from 150 to 100, meaning it'll take more shots to destroy a wall.

In addition, Epic will increase the amount of time it takes to reload the Rocket Launcher from 2.52 seconds to 3.24 seconds. The Stormwing airplanes found in the game will no longer be able to smash through structures (but you'll still be able to shoot them), and you'll also be able to crouch while in edit mode.

There's good news for advanced players who need every fraction of a second to count: Turbo Build delays will drop from 0.15 seconds to 0.05 seconds. As well, Epic has revealed that falling from a zipline will have fall damage immunity going forward.

A new event

Epic previously announced that update version 7.40 will also bring its new Share the Love event Overtime challenges, giving players a chance to earn more rewards. Once v7.40 drops, players will have until the end of Season 7 to finish the new challenges — Battle Pass owners will unlock new Onesie, Powder, and Trog outfits.

In addition, over the next two weekends players will earn double experience points, giving them a final shot at unlocking all of the Battle Pass tiers.
