ESPN Gets iOS Makeover, Full Android Update 'In A Few Months'

ESPN might be the worldwide leader when it comes to sports information delivery, but apps — not so much. On iOS, ESPN has separate apps for the iPhone and iPad. Dubbed SportsCenter and ScoreCenter, respectively, the duopoly was confusing, but necessary. The larger iPad brought more to the table than the smaller iPhone, but now that we've got larger iPhones, ESPN is bringing some solidarity to their app offerings. A new app, simply known as ESPN, will be available on both iPhone and iPad, and has been reworked form the ground up.

The new-look app brings you three main categories: scores, news, and 'Now'. Scores is obviously just that, scores form around the leagues you follow. If you want more results, you can view more than just the major goings-on from leagues as well.

News is longer-form content, and comes in the form of both video and the written word (Coach Karl is coming back!). ESPN's 'Now' category is a series of hot-takes more than anything else, with snippets of info or video being fed to you.

There's also a new live content feed, which redirects to ESPN's WatchESPN app. To take advantage there, you'll need to be an ESPN subscriber through your cable provider. You'll also need iOS 8, so make sure you're up to date there as well.

Sadly, all that's being described above is iOS only — for now. ESPN says that while the Android app has been renamed, all the cool new stuff won't hit for "a few months". When it does, ESPN promises the experience will be "miles better", though.
