Envivio offers advanced media playback features for Windows Phone 7

With Windows Phone 7 taking center stage over the last few weeks the new mobile OS is making some big news all around the tech world. If you are looking forward to getting your hands on one of the new Microsoft handsets and like to view lots of media on your mobile device Envivio has announced what it calls TV without Borders for the devices.

The company has added support for Windows Phone 7 devices to its multi-screen video head ends based on the 4Caster C4 family of encoder/transcoders. The software allows for H.264 compression and supports advanced playback and content protection features that are used by wireless carries and content providers all around the world.

The 4Caster C4 encoders use Envivio Extreme H.264 encoding to deliver content via Microsoft IIS Smooth Streaming to the IIS Smooth Streaming Client 1.1 that is on WinPo 7 devices. Support for the Microsoft devices is part of the recently announced 4Caster C4 v2.3, v2.5 firmware updates announced this week, and the software is in the final stages of beta testing according to the company.
