DREDD 2: Karl Urban Meets With Filmmakers
Karl Urban has once again spoken up about DREDD 2, the sequel to the first film that does not officially have a plan for a second. We heard from Urban in April of this year speaking about the petition to get a DREDD sequel made, and since then we've heard from Olivia Thirlby as well with a similar message. Now we're hearing from Urban again, this time at Destination Star Trek 3 in London England. This is the same convention where we saw Cortana speak Klingon for the first time, mind you.
First – just in case you've not seen it, here's Olivia Thirlby, aka Judge Anderson, speaking about the film and a sequel. "Thank you so much for your continuing support of the film. It means everything. ... We really want to bring you a DREDD 2, and we will do everything we can to make it happen."
Below you'll see the more recent Destination Star Trek 3 event footage captured this past weekend in London. Get Trekked-out if you dare.
At the 1:45 mark in the video above, courtesy of The Player, you'll see none other than Jonathan Ross of television fame speaking with Urban about DREDD. There he asks whether there's been any additional news on the DREDD 2 front.
"Thank you very much for asking," says Urban, "I'm incredibly proud of that film and it means a lot to me."
"And there are a lot of people working very, very hard to deliver a sequel because it is amazing how many people come up to me and say – 'I really would like to see another installment of that film.'" Urban continues, "I'm meeting with the filmmakers – actually on this trip – and there's a lot of people trying to make it happen."
"If it does happen, it's going to be phenomenal," says Urban, "and if it's just a one-off event, then so be it, but we're trying." He goes on to mention the 2000AD Online Petition – which they suggest has over 125 thousand signatures already.
By all means, sign away. Let us know what you'd like to see in a DREDD sequel and stay tuned – if it does happen, you'll hear about it from us in a snap.
