Captain Marvel Trailer Delivers The Epic Space Battle Treatment

With the exception of Thor, most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe' superheroes, spandex-clad or not, are Earthbound. Of course, there's the Guardians, but that's a different story. With Captain Marvel, we're getting our first real outer space superhero. Well, at least we're supposed to. If you didn't get that vibe with the first official trailer, then fret not. Trailer #2 has finally landed it's finally giving some space action worthy of a Kree noble warrior hero.

Captain Marvel, which premieres in a little over three months, is an important piece of the MCU puzzle. It is the studio's first standalone film with a female lead, who happens to be (arguably) the strongest woman in the galaxy. It will also be the film that links Avengers: Infinity War and the still to be named Avengers 4 film that launches a few months after it. In other words, there are a lot of things hedging on Captain Marvel's success, both in the box office as well as with critics.

The film also teeters between being an origin story and a prequel. Undoubtedly, fans will keep a critical eye on how the film will stay true to Carol Danvers' comics roots. At the same time, with a plot taking place way before even the first Avenger (or Iron Man for that matter), there's plenty of wiggle room for artistic license.

The second official trailer focuses on the war between the Kree and the Skrull, two alien races that seem to have an eternal enmity for each other. Of course, like any other alien war, our little blue planet is dragged into that chaos, willing or not. How Captain Marvel ties into this, as well as the other pieces of Marvel's film universe, is most likely going to be the thread that runs throughout the film.

Captain Marvel is set to premiere in March 2019, with final Avengers film following closely in May. Marvel fans will also have something else to look forward to this week as rumors claim that the Avengers 4 trailer will also debut really, really soon.
