Captain America: Civil War Adds Martin Freeman To Cast

Martin Freeman, perhaps best known in his role as Bilbo Baggins (or as Doctor Watson, depending on your tastes), has joined the cast of Marvel's upcoming Captain America: Civil War. Marvel announced the addition this afternoon, with the movie's producer Kevin Feige praising the move. Freeman has a long list of movies and shows under his belt, and this latest one looks to be just as promising as the past Captain America movies. More on the news after the jump!

Freeman has played as Bilbo Baggins in the Hobbit movies, as well as Doctor Watson in Sherlock, Tim in The Office, in Fargo, and more. He boasts a Primetime Emmy Award for his work, as well as a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe nomination (not to mention other nominations).

The newest Captain America movie will be hitting theaters on May 6, 2016, following up from the likes of Winter Soldier and the studio's other super hero movies. It isn't clear at this point what his role in the movie will be, nor whether Marvel plans to have him in future films as well.

Said Producer Kevin Feige, "We couldn't be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe." Not familiar with the Captain America movies? We've got more news about it in the timeline below!
