Canoo has revealed its third model, and the all-electric vehicle startup is taking on a popular category with an EV pickup. Headed to production in 2023, Canoo says, the as-yet unnamed vehicle taps the company's homegrown "skateboard" platform for EVs. That's the same as underpins its planned 7-seater passenger vehicle, and its electric multi-purpose delivery vehicle.

Like most EV efforts, that platform combines the electric motors, batteries, and other electronics. Canoo goes one step further, however, with both steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire. It means only an electronic connection between the upper body of the vehicle and the skateboard underneath is required in order for control.

In this case, that body is a distinctive pickup design. Pushing the cab forward means Canoo can offer a six foot bed in a smaller footprint than usual; that can even extend to eight feet, with fold-out rear panels. There's a frunk with an expanding worksurface table, too, along with plenty of power outlets. No word on pricing; that'll be confirmed closer to the pickup's launch in a few years time.
