Bourne May Retain Matt Damon: Aaron Cross To Stick Around Too

While Matt Damon has – on more than one occasion – suggested that he's not interested in returning to the Bourne film series, it would appear that this week he may be turning a cheek. Reports from Twitch suggest that Damon is in talks with Universal Studios to bring the Bourne character back to the film series – just so long as the next picture is directed by Paul Greengrass. The films The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) were also directed by Paul Greengrass, if you did not know – those are also the two most successful films of the series thus far.

While this would at first seem to spell certain doom for the Aaron Cross character introduced in the most recent installment of the film series, instead it would appear that the two action stars will be – maybe, possibly – crossing paths. This Cross character was portrayed by Jeremy Renner in The Bourne Legacy where his storyline ran parallel to that of Bourne.

As the Bourne film series isn't – by any means – afraid to run storylines out of order or parallel to one another, we must expect that any new entry into the series could just as easily take place before the current series of films as after. In that sort of a situation we could quite easily see Aaron Cross and Jason Bourne play out a series of storylines with and around one another.

The same source as leaking information above suggests that the re-attaching of Matt Damon to the Bourne series does not include an axing of Jeremy Renner, nor the Aaron Cross character. That said, as quoted by Screencrush, Damon hasn't appeared to thrilled about creating another storyline after "Legacy" due to the not-so-smooth meeting of characters – and "oh just kidding" reappearance of Borne that'd have to take place.

"Because they use our actors and characters, whatever they said [in 'Legacy'] is true and so we'd have to acknowledge it in any Bourne movie that we'd do. And that makes it really tough. I don't think we can do the 'Dallas' it-was-all-a-dream scenario. I don't think the audience would go for that after they paid money to see a movie." – Matt Damon

Maybe this means Damon will be free to play Robin in the new Superman movie aside Ben Affleck? You never know!
