Both are offered in Competition models that offer 617 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque. Top speed for the standard X5 M and X6 M is 155 mph with the optional M Driver's package upping that to 177 mph. Buyers get an invite to a driver training school if they opt for the M Driver's Package. The dual-branch exhaust system was designed specifically for the vehicles and has a pair of 100mm tailpipes with electronically-controlled flaps.

The flaps allow the exhaust note to be controlled via an M sound control button on the center console. Competition models get a standard M Sport Exhaust with a sportier sound. Both cars use an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with manual and automatic shift modes.

M xDrive all-wheel-drive with an Active M differential helps the vehicles to get good traction, and the AWD system is rear-wheel biased. The vehicles feature Adaptive M suspension Profesional with Active Roll Stabilization. The system uses data about the road gathered from sensors and adjusts itself to deliver the best performance. BMW fits the cars with special brakes with dual pedal feel settings. BMW hasn't announced the price or exact availability for the vehicles.
