Experience

Alan has been a professional reporter, columnist and editor since 1978, working for The Providence Journal and later for BestReviews.com. As a writer, he has interviewed William Shatner and Majel Barrett, and covered police, City Hall, and the high-society attempted-murder trial of Claus von Bulow, as well as reviewing restaurants, theater, movies and audiobooks. As an editor, he has overseen coverage of small towns, big cities, and an entire state, as well as arts, entertainment, and lifestyle, including cars, food, and travel. He joined Static Media in 2024 and is putting his lifetime of car ownership – for better and for worse – into his work for SlashGear, where he is a News Editor.

Education

Alan has a bachelor of science degree in journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School.
