Music Technology, Consumer Audio, Retro Tech
- AJ discovered his love for music technology through playing in bands and recording in studios as a teenager. This led to him studying electronics and acoustics, then forging a career in audio engineering.
- Most of his career was focussed on developing products for the tech industry. He's worked on handheld devices, virtual reality wearables, Bluetooth headsets, hearing aids, and loudspeakers.
- As a tech journalist he's reported from some of the world's biggest trade shows, including CES, CEDIA, and NAMM for SoundGuys and Authority Media. He's a member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), and attends its meetings and conventions.
Experience
In 2020, after two decades in the tech industry, AJ established himself as the audio test and measurement specialist at SoundGuys. There he also developed his writing skills as a regular feature contributor and occasional product reviewer, and later took on the role of executive editor. In addition to living in several U.S. states, Canadian provinces, and UK cities, AJ has traveled extensively, visiting over 30 countries. Combining this with his love of tech, he's a big advocate of material efficiency and product durability. Outside of work he's out rucking on the streets of Vancouver, or at a metal concert.
