AT&T Outlines Two Options for Recent iPhone 3GS Buyers

For iPhone customers, it's become a harsh reality that, if you get the newest model, there's probably going to be a new one released a year later. That's tough for some folks to rationalize, due to the fact that to get the cheapest price for their newest gadget from Apple, they need to sign up for a new two-year contract. But, we already know AT&T's here to the rescue, with ways to make sure that current iPhone customers can get their hands on the shiny new toy. Thanks to the folks at ModMyi, we get to see two other ways that AT&T is planning on making iPhone 3GS purchases out there content.

Of course, there's a few catches involved. Nothing's as easy as we'd like it to be. For those of you out there that bought a iPhone 3GS between May 7th and June 7th, and you actually want to keep your phone, then you can get either a $50 credit to your bill (for the iPhone 3GS 16GB), or a $100 credit to your bill (for the iPhone 3GS 32GB). However, if you look closely enough, you'll see this: Customers who purchased iPhone 3GS May 7th through May 14th will have until June 14th to visit the original location of purchase and receive this one-time bill credit. So, you've got a bit of a time frame to work with, but not much.

Now, if you're looking forward to the iPhone 4, and you want to give up what you've just bought, you can do that, too. You can out-right exchange your iPhone 3GS for the newer model, but you'll be responsible for the price difference. (For example: you bought the 16GB 3GS, but now you want the 32GB iPhone 4.) So, it looks like AT&T is trying to do everything possible to make sure that people aren't scorned by their 3GS purchases in the last month, due to the announcement of the new model. Anyone out there thinking about doing this?
