AT&T claims WiFi network usage grew to more than 68M connections in Q2

One of the ways that AT&T is trying to reduce some of the workload on its mobile data network is by trying to get some users to offload their data use to the AT&T WiFi network. AT&T has over 20,000 hotspots around the country and gives 3G subscribers access to those hotspots.

The wireless provider has announced that during Q2 its WiFi hotspot network supported more than 68 million connections. AT&T says that the rise in connections is fueled by the increasing number of devices on the market that support WiFi.

In the entire year of 2009, AT&T recorded 85.5 million connections. That means that Q2 2010 alone had about 75% of the number of connections made in all of 2009.
