ASUS ZenFone 4 Phones Accidentally Leaked By ASUS
Leaks have become so commonplace in the mobile industry that some companies have given up trying to stop them. Some, like LG, even do their own piecemeal teasing weeks before something major is revealed. And then you have the likes of ASUS here, who "accidentally" hit the publish button on four of its upcoming ZenFone 4 models. While the company has already taken down those product pages, the Internet rarely forgets, leaving us plenty to chew on while waiting for the actual and final announcement.
We really don't have long to wait though. ASUS has already made it known that it will be making a big splash next week, ahead of either Samsung and LG. That said, it probably wasn't planning on having full details leak out before that. Especially not coming from itself. Sadly, mistakes happen, sometimes to the public's benefit.
The ZenFone 4 series is to be ASUS' premiere line this year, but based on the specs from its product pages, they are going to leave a lot dissatisfied. With the lone exception of the ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro, which, ironically, was the only one not completely leaked, all of the other four ZenFone 4 models are pretty much your mid-range affair.
The ZenFone 4 itself, model ZE554KL, is the nominal flagship but doesn't exactly get the flagship treatment. What you get, instead, is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 (or 660 in some models), with 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, and a 5.5-inch Full HD screen. In truth, the ZenFone 4 Pro will supposedly surpass it in only one aspect, its Snapdragon 835 processor.
The ZenFone 4 Max is perhaps worse in that regard, running only on a Snapdragon 425, with 3 GB of RAM and a 720p 5.2-inch screen. It may not be max in size but usually that means it will have a larger battery than the others. Interestingly, all ZenFone 4 models get dual cameras, even this almost low-end one.
ASUS, however, pours its camera chops on the Selfie version of the line. The ZenFone 4 Selfie is only a notch above the Max in specs, with a Snapdragon 430 and 4 GB of RAM but it leapfrogs over them all with its dual 20 and 8 megapixel main cameras. And, as can be expected from a "selfie" phone, it has a large 16 megapixel front shooter.
The ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro is, unsurprisingly, better, with a 24 and 5 megapixel dual camera and 16 megapixel rear camera. The processor for this model is a Snapdragon 625 paired with 4 GB of RAM. And the 5.5-inch screen is at least better with a Full HD resolution.
The ASUS ZenFone 4 series is set to launch next week, perhaps with the exception of the ZenFone 4 Max, which won't be coming until around October. Based on their short-lived appearance on ASUS' French website, the prices for the smartphones are as follows:
• ASUS ZenFone 4 – 499.99 EUR ($590)
• ASUS ZenFone 4 Max – 229.99 EUR ($270)
• ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie – 299.99 EUR ($350)
• ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro – 399.99 EUR ( $470)
