Apple Watch Series 5 Gallery

An Apple Event took place on September 10, 2019 at which several new iterations of devices were shown, including Apple Watch Series 5. As the name implies, this is the 5th family of Apple Watch devices, including both 44mm and 40mm cases, GPS, GPS + Cellular, and both Apple Watch Nike and Apple Watch Hermes versions. The Apple Watch Series 5 was announced to come in Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Titanium, and white Ceramic.

Apple Watch Series 5 appears on the Apple Store today (September 10th) effectively replacing the Apple Watch Series 4. In the process of replacing Series 4, Apple displays the Series 5 Apple Watch next to the Series 3, making the differences between the two series seem more substantial than they'd be were that they'd have gotten rid of the 3 and kept the 4.

Keeping the Series 3 Apple Watch in the store next to the Apple Watch Series 5 means Apple can continue to have the device built with the same parts as in previous years for lower prices as time progresses. Apple's been doing something similar with other devices in recent years, allowing new devices to appear with old parts with new software.

Apple Watch Series 5 has the same size body and display as the Apple Watch Series 4 – exactly the same. They're the same "thinness" too, at 10.7mm. They both have ECG apps and second-generation optical heart sensors. They both have digital crowns with haptic feedback and fall detection.

Series 5 now adds a newer processor (S5 64-bit dual-core S5 processor Apple suggested was "up to 2x faster than S3 processor"). There's a little oddity here in that Apple ALSO said that the S4 processor (from the Series 4 Apple Watch) was "up to 2x faster than the S3 processor" – but it'd doubtful the majority of users will have any qualms.

We'll have Apple Watch Series 5 hands-on and first impressions in the main SlashGear news feed as well as our full review, soon! Have a peek at our Apple Watch Series 5 adds always-on display article to learn more about the ins and outs of this new device.
