Apple Sesame Workshop deal ushers in original kids shows

Following its recent partnership with Oprah Winfrey, Apple has struck another agreement that underscores its push into original content. The company has signed a deal with Sesame Workshop, the organization behind the popular children's show Sesame Street. Under this deal, Sesame Workshop will create original children's shows for Apple.

The company announced the news today following a leak alleging as much; the deal doesn't include Sesame Street itself. Rather, Sesame Workshop will be creating original kids shows for Apple, those including puppet, live-action, and animated series.

This will be Apple's first dabbling in the children's genre. Sesame Workshop previously signed a deal with HBO that brought hit children's show Sesame Street to the network. This time around, the organization will greatly expand its work by creating multiple original shows.

The number of shows in the pipeline wasn't revealed, however, and may not be set in stone; Apple likewise didn't disclose the terms of the deal. Additional information on the partnership, as well as data on the original works, isn't provided.
