Apple Recalls Wall Adapters Made Between 2003 And 2015
Last week, Microsoft issued a recall for some Surface Pro power adapters. In the time since then, Apple has been looking for a way to get the recall spotlight on themselves. In just over a week, they've managed to find a host of AC wall plugs that might break and potentially shock the user if touched.
No, Apple isn't actually trying to keep up with the Joneses on safety recalls. However, the issue with their AC wall plug adapters is very real. The issue affects wall plug adapters shipped with iOS and Mac devices between the years of 2003 and 2015. While that sounds like a pretty significant number of devices affected, thankfully the issue is "very rare" and may not actually affect you at all.
The plugs affected were packaged with devices sold in the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Continental Europe, New Zealand and South Korea. They were also included in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit. If you happened to purchase your device in any of those countries, or have the Travel Adapter Kit, then you might want to stop using the wall plug.
To determine if your adapter is affected, look at the inside slot. If there are four or five characters printed there (or none at all) then it is possibly affected. You'll want to head to the official Apple Support Page for additional details.
