Alpha 400 MIPS Netbook Only Costs $170; We Can See Why

The netbook market has been doing very well lately providing users with all the Internet access they need without adding a lot of extra features to raise the price. It seems some companies have really headed in the wrong direction, selling netbooks at near notebook prices, but that's not the case when it comes to the Alpha 400 MIPS.

For only $170, this netbook will do the job if you're on a strict budget, but we recommend dipping a little bit deeper in your wallet because every specification this bad boy screams outdated. From the 400MHz processor to the 128MB stick of ram and 1GB flash memory, we surely don't see a powerhouse by any means. The screen is surprisingly small at just 7-inches 800 x 480.

The built in 802.11b wireless adapter seems to be the most up-to-date piece of hardware in this machine. Many public hotspots today will not even allow standard B connections. This is by far the cheapest netbook we have seen yet. For less than many mobile phones will cost you, the Alpha 400 MIPS will give you Internet browsing and basic word processing features, but don't expect much more.
