4K 21.5-Inch iMac Revealed In El Capitan Beta Build

Inside the newest build of OS X El Capitan comes mention of Apple's newest desktop device, one with a 21.5-inch 4K display. While we can't be 100% certain this is a display aimed at a new iMac, Apple's desktop and laptop lineup do leave room right this moment for just such a device. This would make way for the current 21.5-inch iMac to be retired while a new version with 4096 x 2304 pixels to come through. This device will likely be revealed by Apple within the next couple of months.

This software update also gives word of four new AMD Radeon R9 processors that'll likely be on their way for other Apple products. AMD processors M380, M390, M395 and M395X can be found in the Beta files of the newest version of OS X for developers.

An Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 chipset can also be found in the files, lending additional hint that a new iMac is well on its way. Broadwell inside, this desktop machine will likely be a fine fit for those that want super-sharp graphics on an Apple desktop without having to deal with a 27-inch monster.

Last year's iMac was revealed in October. That's the 5K iMac with 27-inch display. This year's iMac reveal will very possibly come on a bit sooner – we'll see soon.
