2019 Honda Insight Gallery
Honda's electrified line-up is getting crowded, but the automaker isn't slowing down. The fifth of the automaker's electrified vehicles to be announced over the past year is this, the 2019 Honda Insight. Larger than the Civic, but smaller than the Accord and Clarity, the new Insight resurrects an old nameplate for a brand new car.
The star of the show is Honda's latest two-motor electric hybrid system. That has a super-frugal 1.5-liter Atkinson gas engine and an electric motor that can be directly connected to the drive axles. During normal operation, the gas engine acts as a generator, providing power either to the motor or the li-ion battery hidden under the rear bench seats.
Inside, Honda is quoting best-in-class rear legroom and the same cargo capacity as you'd expect from a gas car. There's optional Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus a 4G LTE connection with WiFi hotspot functionality. Honda Sensing is standard across the range, with its variety of driver-assistance and active safety aids.
