T-Mobile Value Plans Make Data An Overage-Free Zone

T-Mobile USA has introduced a new set of "Value" plans, offering the price-conscious customer a choice of 2GB, 5GB and 10GB data bundles from $49.99 including unlimited calls and texts. Available from July 24, the new options can be applied to any feature- or smartphone, and will be accompanied by a Value range of mobile broadband plans kicking off from $19.99.

The new plans will go on offer alongside, rather than replacing, T-Mobile's existing data plans, which will be rebranded "Classic." No overage charges will be levied, though your speeds will be throttled down to 2G levels if you exceed your monthly data limit. There's also support for multiple lines.

The use of throttling does at least mean there shouldn't be any nasty surprises when the bill comes in; after all, a "value" plan starts to feel like it's offering less, well, value when you find a couple hundred dollars of data overage fees have been added on top. T-Mobile is also offering its monthly purchase plan, to allow you to buy an expensive smartphone and then spread the cost out over an extended period.
