Sony Recalls 69K VGP-AC19V17 VAIO Power Adapters

The last few week shave seen several large product recalls with the most recent from Belkin due to a risk of electrical shock. Today Sony has announced a large product recall that will affect the owners of several VAIO computers. The recall has to do with the AC adapters the machines use rather than the batteries this time around.

Sony has voluntarily recalled the Sony VGP-AC19V17 power adapter that was sold with VAIO all-in-one computers, VAIO docking stations, VGC-LT series, VGC-JS2 series, and VGP-PRBX1 and VGP-PRFE1 computers. The AC adapters included with these devices have insulation inside that can fail over time posing a shock hazard.

Sony reports that it has received notification of four adapters short-circuiting and that none of the incidents have happened in the US and none of them resulted in injury. Sony wants users to stop using the AC adapters immediately and the adapters will be replaced free of charge.
