Intel Bay Trail aims for Android and Windows 8 hybrids

Today Intel has revealed their plans for the Bay Trail collection of Atom Z3000 Series Processors, making clear that they're aiming for devices that are small but powerful. This line of SoC is headed for tablets, phones, and everything in-between packing Intel's newest Silvermont architecture for next-generation processing finesse. This is not Intel's first move into the mobile smart device universe, but it's certainly its most serious.

Intel smartphone and tablet chip roadmap leaks: Bay Trail-T the star for Android

Intel smartphone and tablet chip roadmap leaks: Bay Trail-T the star for Android

It would appear that the folks at Intel are not giving up - by any means - on their ventures into the smartphone and tablet universe as a roadmap of processor architecture leaks today. This selection of next-generation hardware will be used in Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Android 4.2 devices, leaving Windows RT in the dust (not that Intel was all that excited about the platform in the first place, as it were). It all begins with a suggestion from Digitimes, Taiwan-based newspaper sources speaking up on two new tablet platforms Cherry Trail and Willow Trail, both of which will come in with 14nm processes.

Intel: Apple shapes our roadmap, ARM MacBook is ridiculous

Intel: Apple shapes our roadmap, ARM MacBook is ridiculous

Intel hasn't just been annoying Microsoft this week; the chip company has also been admitting quite how valuable Apple's roadmap is, and how much it shapes Intel's own product plans. "Apple helps shape our roadmap" senior Intel VP Tom Kilroy told Reuters, "they push us hard." That reliance could be under threat, according to reports earlier this month that Apple was planning a switch to ARM processors for its mainstream notebook line, though Kilroy is quick to dismiss it as unfounded.
