, May 2nd 2012 Discuss [0]

The next-generation iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S III will be the two biggest and baddest smartphones on the market this summer. There’s no denying that. Unless you’re HTC and you’ve got the HTC One series with the HTC One X on AT&T and the HTC One S on T-Mobile, then you’ve got something to back up your claim that you’ve got anything to say to either Samsung or Apple. Thusly here is my challenge to you, Apple and Samsung – I dare you to make a more perfectly tuned smartphone than HTC has offered up here at the start of 2012. I dare you to take this game to the next level.

RIM pushes HTML5 apps amid Canada user exodus

, Mar 23rd 2012 Discuss [0]

RIM has turned to courting HTML5-curious developers as a stopgap solution to slumping BlackBerry sales in Canada and elsewhere, arguing the case for universal webapps to counter coder apathy. BlackBerry marketshare in Canada - not RIM's biggest single market, but meaningful as it is the firm's home turf - has dipped below iPhone levels this week, hand in hand with decreasing levels of developer interest as BlackBerry 10's late 2012 launch looks unpalatably distant. That's prompted a charm offensive by RIM code champions, pushing HTML5 development as preferable to native code. Read The Full Story

BlackBerry Milan axed as RIM focuses on BB10 and MWC showcase

, Jan 5th 2012 Discuss [7]

RIM has pared down its planned 2012 range even further, it's reported, canceling the upcoming BlackBerry Milan after carriers decided it was too similar to the existing BlackBerry Torch. That's no great loss, however; despite appearances suggesting it was a BlackBerry 10 device, the Milan was actually set to run BlackBerry 7, so BGR's sources claim. That leaves just one leaked device still in the pipeline. [Update: Seems news broke about the Milan cancellation even earlier - N4BB had the scoop on Tuesday] Read The Full Story

What we're looking at here is the first image of the BlackBerry Milan, a slide-up QWERTY keyboard revealing BBX (aka BlackBerry 10) device that shows the future of RIM-made smartphones in several clearly new features both in image and in rumor surrounding the device. The image is from CrackBerry where writer Kevin Michaluk notes he also has a set of tips on the device that make it a good indicator of what's to come from RIM in 2012. Rounded corners looking like the PlayBook and a higher density pixel array through the display are but two of the innovations coming down the chute. Read The Full Story
