Windows 8 makes manufacturers touchy at IFA 2012

This week in Berlin at IFA 2012 we're seeing a large amount of manufacturers bringing on touchscreens and convertible, transformable, or otherwise completely strange Windows 8 computers. There's everything from a flipping screen to a flat horizontal interface, and so many tablets that we don't know where to begin. One thing they've all got in common: they're attempting to make use of Windows 8's ability to work with interactive touchscreens and gestures galore.

ASUS confirms Eee Pad Transformer and Slider getting ICS asap

ASUS has quietly confirmed its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade schedule for the original Eee Pad Transformer and Eee Pad Slider, promising Android 4.0 will be pushed out as soon as possible after the January 12 Transformer Prime launch. The exact date of the upgrade is yet to be decided, but ASUS says it will be an OTA process rather than requiring the Eee Pad to be plugged into a computer to install it.

Tablets: an Android 2011 Retrospective

When the year 2011 is looked back upon by the Google historians, they'll mark it as the first time they officially made an effort to bring the Android platform to devices with displays larger than handheld smartphones - what we saw, as a result, was everything from the XOOM to the ASUS Transformer Prime. The folks at Google created a version of their mobile operating system Android titled Honeycomb and numbered version 3.0. This operating system began its life in the wild on the Motorola XOOM, a 10.1-inch tablet that by the end of the year would be replaced by the XYBOARD, a tablet which physically in weight and thickness to the iPad 2 - the dominant force in the tablet space throughout the vast majority of this past year.

Asus launches official Eee Slider Android tablet page

Asus has some of the cooler Android tablets on the market today and it still has one of the coolest yet to hit store shelves called the Eee Pad Slider. The Slider is a very interesting tablet that has a keyboard tucked away under the screen so you can type on the go without needing to take a keyboard with you. The Slider is expected to land in the US and other places in September. Not too long ago the tablet crossed the FCC to get the approvals it needed to come to market.

ASUS had great success with the Eee Pad Transformer tablet/notebook hybrid that's surely a good sign for its upcoming Eee Pad Slider. Both devices re-imagine the basic tablet form factor with unique keyboard components that boost functionality and productivity without sacrificing the portability that tablets are known for.
