Nokia Planning More OLED Cellphones In 2009
Nokia are reportedly planning to introduce several handsets during 2009 that will use OLED displays, joining the company's existing N85 and upcoming N86. According to market sources, the Finnish company are "optimistic about OLED applications" and are sourcing panels from TPO Displays and Samsung Mobile Display.
It's unclear what handsets Nokia has in mind to get the OLED treatment. The N85 and N86 are both photography-focused devices, with high-resolution cameras as well as broad media playback support. These functions work well with OLED's rich color saturation and general picture quality.
OLED is predicted to play an increasing role in mobile devices such as smartphones, as companies look to the technology to reduce battery-drain from larger, brighter displays. Samsung Electronics are also said to be planning several "high-end handsets" using OLED during 2009.
