Nixon The Mission Android Wear Aims At Action Sports

Most smartwatches out there can survive being splashed with water while you wash your hands, but you probably wouldn't want to swim with the watch on. A new smartwatch aimed at action sports people has turned up and it's from Nixon and is called The Mission. The smartwatch runs Android Wear and is described as the first action sports smartwatch.

The smartwatch is designed to work directly with Surfline and Snocountry apps. These apps are designed specifically to alert the user when the waves are at their best for surfing and when the snow is at its best or shredding down the mountain. The watch is also loaded with the Nixon Trace app that tracks ski or board sessions and delivers snow reports to your wrist.

The watch is water resistant to 100M and is shock resistant. The case is 40mm diameter and made from polycarbonate. The crystal is Corning Gorilla Glass. The bezel of the watch is made from 316L surgical grade stainless steel to protect the touchscreen and improve durability. Android Wear means support for Google Fit, voice search, gesture/music control and more.

The wearable will launch on October 10, 2016 for $400 with customized versions selling for $450. Additional bands cost $45 each and a special Mission Power Cord sells for $25.
