LinkedIn Launches "Linkedin Today" Social News For Professionals

LinkedIn, the social networking site aimed at professionals, has been adding many new social features lately in its bid to become a more active destination. Today, the company launched a social news site called LinkedIn Today that compiles the most-shared news headlines from within your professional networks.

Headlines are selected based on the top stories in the industry shared by your peers and the trending news. LinkedIn Today users will have the ability to follow up to 22 different industries and be able to follow specific news sources from any industry.

"Having a professional and tailored lens on news and insights is not only an efficient way to gather information for your work day, but also arms you with the insights you need to make strategic business decisions," said SVP of product and user experience at LinkedIn Deep Nishar.

LinkedIn has over 90 million registered members, but is struggling to stay relevant in the social networking world. The company admits that a "substantial majority" of its members don't visit the site on a monthly basis. LinkedIn is hoping to change that with fresher news that professionals will want to keep up to date with. LinkedIn Today will also be available on your iPhone via a native app.
