John Legere's T-Mobile USA Is Eating Its Rivals' Lunches
T-Mobile USA is kicking off Uncarrier 7.0, and while John Legere might be proving to be a controversial chief exec with his regular rival-baiting, it seems his aggressive strategy is paying off. August was the biggest post-paid net-add growth in the history of the carrier, Legere revealed today; "Let me tell you the startling event that happened... it was August!"
Leger didn't give specific numbers for how much T-Mobile actually made in the last quarter, but he did talk about some other August figures.
For instance, last month T-Mobile saw 2.75m gross adds, 10-percent more than the previous month. It also saw 1m branded post-paid adds to the network.
As for how many customers are jumping ship to T-Mobile, Legere had some stats there too. In the last quarter, the network saw a 2:1 porting ratio of other carriers to T-Mobile USA: over 4:1 from Sprint alone, and over 2:1 from Verizon.
"That big duopolist is losing twice as many customers to us than they're gaining," Legere said of Verizon Wireless. "I want to thank the Three Stooges for giving us the biggest month of the year."
Still, there are some big dogs in the industry even Legere won't taunt. The CEO said he wouldn't be discussing iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pricing today, with those figures coming later on.
