iPlayer International Access "Less Than $10" A Month Promises BBC

BBC Director General Mark Thompson has apparently confirmed international iPlayer plans, with the streaming media service expected to launch for non-UK users later in 2011. Speaking at the FT Digital Media & Broadcasting Conference 2011 this morning, Thompson also confirmed that the international iPlayer service would be subscription-based, but that it would be "a few dollars a month – less than $10."

An international iPlayer launch has been on the cards for some time, with reports from a BBC engineer last month suggesting that the broadcaster was hoping to make all of its content available worldwide. Currently, while various iOS and Android iPlayer apps are available, they will only work in the UK due to licensing issues.
