iMovie On iPad 2 Not Compatible With Camcorder Video

Anyone who has used iMovie has dealt with some frustration when trying to use video clips that aren't encoded to work the program. Apple updated a support document for iMovie for iOS that addressed some user's complaints about certain video clips not showing up in the media browser. These videos are probably taken and imported by non-Apple devices through a connection kit or iTunes to your Apple device.

Apple says this:

iMovie for iOS is designed to work with video recorded with iPad 2, iPhone 4, and iPod touch (4th generation). To ensure optimal performance, the app filters out certain non-Apple video clips from the Video browser. These incompatible clips cannot be added to your iMovie project.

One can certainly get around this little setback by re-encoding your video clips so that they play nice with with your iOS devices, it just takes a little extra effort. There are plenty of third-party applications out there that will convert your videos for you, even some in the Mac App Store. Have any of y'all run into this problem? How have you gotten around it?
