Hitman GO Revealed By Square Enix: Turn-Based Strategy Gone Mobile

Though for many hardcore PC or game console gamers, the idea that the Hitman franchise would go to the mobile platform is nothing short of blasphemy, Square Enix is suggesting this week that they've got something unique on their hands. Literally saying "yes we said it: tablet/smartphone: let us explain", Square Enix Montreal went on this week to say that this game will be developed completely separately from the AAA Hitman title being created right now bi Io-Interactive.

Here we're seeing what's being described as a turn-based strategy game "with beautifully rendered diorama-style set pieces." While Hitman has been a massively popular game as a first-person sneak-around and murder game exclusively for a number of years, Square Enix Montreal suggests they've created a model that will make die-hard Hitman fans proud.

"Hitman GO is a turn-based strategy game with beautifully rendered diorama-style set pieces. You will strategically navigate fixed spaces on a grid to avoid enemies and take out your target or infiltrate well-guarded locations.

You really have to think about each move and all the Hitman tools of the trade you would expect are included; disguises, distractions, sniper rifles and even 47's iconic Silverballers." – Square Enix Montreal

The game will be launched soon. Square Enix Montreal suggest that the title is "almost ready for launch" and that "you might even read about it online in the coming weeks as we do some testing" – aka it's a few weeks out, at least.

While the preview we're getting this week doesn't allow us to go off much, we're feeling like the gam could have real potential. It's extremely easy to get lost in the fray of the mobile world's gaming ocean, but big names like Square Enix and Hitman could allow this construct to have a chance. Hitman GO will launch globally and it'll more than likely hit both iOS and Android – confirmation on platforms incoming.
