Google Just Spilled A Mind-Boggling Fact About Google Home Sales
2017 was a pretty big year for Google from an IoT standpoint. Google Home came into its own as smart home hub, and Google Assistant saw rapid expansion to a bunch of new countries and devices. Today Google is recapping the year Google Assistant and Google Home had, and for the first time, it's giving us some idea of how well Google Home is selling.
In a new post over on The Keyword, Google reveals that it sold "tens of millions of all our Google devices for the home" throughout 2017. While that language doesn't necessarily limit sales to just the Google Home lineup (it could presumably count sales figures for devices like Chromecast as well), it does suggest that adoption of the platform is indeed healthy.

Google ultimately doesn't share any specific sales data, but it does note that it's sold "more than one Google Home device every second since Google Home Mini started shipping in October." That seems pretty insane, and though Google's reach (and its penchant for advertising) probably has quite a bit to do with the pace of sales, the Google Home Mini clearly deserves a lot of the credit as well.
After all, the Google Home Mini is the budget-minded smart speaker of the group. While the standard Google Home runs $129.00, the Google Home Mini costs a much more palatable $49. It's true that you make some sound quality sacrifices when you drop down to the Home Mini, but for consumers concerned first and foremost with buying a Google Assistant platform, that doesn't really matter much.
Google is promising an even bigger year for Google Home and Google Assistant in 2018. It'll be interesting to see just how popular Google Home Max becomes, but with a price tag of $399, it definitely isn't going to drive sales in the way the Mini has.
