ASUS ZenWatch 2 Gets Wallet-Friendly Pricing
While Asus first unveiled its new ZenWatch 2 back in early summer, the company has now announced the smartwatch's pricing and specs details. The original ZenWatch was easily one of the best looking wearables to hit the market when it debuted, and the successor is no different. For 2015, the Android Wear device is getting very competitive, with prices of €149 (about $170) for the smaller 45mm model, and €169 ($190) for the larger 49mm version.
Both sizes of the ZenWatch 2 feature AMOLED displays, 1.45 inches on the smaller model and 1.6 inches on the larger. Asus has also outfitted both with a Snapdragon 400 processor and 512MB of RAM, along with 4GB of internal storage. For connectivity they'll each support Bluetooth 4.1 and WiFi.
The 49mm ZenWatch 2 comes with a 400mAh battery, while the 45mm gets 300mAh. Asus claims each model will get up to two days of battery life (two and a half days on the bigger watch), but that's only using the "ambient mode," in other words doing not much more than just telling the time. Also impressive is the speed improvements to the magnetic charging connector, which will refill the smartwatch from empty to 50% in just 36 minutes.
The watch's case will be available in three colors: gunmetal, silver, or rose gold. There will also be a large number of interchangeable straps to choose from, including different materials and colors. While Asus is only revealing the European pricing today, the company says the ZenWatch 2 will be available worldwide starting in early October.
