Meerkat adds GoPro support to its app

Meerkat, the livestreaming app that was squashed under the weight that is Twitter's own Periscope, has decided to branch beyond mobile devices by adding support for GoPro's HERO action camera. So far the app has support for the HERO3 camera, and in the near future it will also support the newer HERO4 camera. With this, GoPro's legion of users can use their action camera and Meerkat to live stream video footage of their adventures and traipsing from their GoPro camera.

GoPro to release video-editing mobile app later this summer

During a recent investors call, GoPro president Tony Bates revealed that the action camera-maker is developing a mobile app that let users quickly and easily edit their footage after it's been shot. Bates added that the app is "in the final phase testing" already, and should be released before the end of the summer. It was clear what platforms the app will hit (though iOS and Android seem likely), but the ability to trim and edit footage almost immediately after shooting will definitely enhance the GoPro experience.

2016 Toyota Tacoma will include a built-in GoPro mount

2016 Toyota Tacoma will include a built-in GoPro mount

GoPro and Toyota have teamed up and as a result the auto maker's mid-size Tacoma pickup truck has a camera mount...one designed to work with GoPro's action cameras. The mounts will come as a standard feature in the 2016 Toyota Tacoma, and mark an industry first. The potential appeal is easy to see: GoPro's cameras are devices one would take on their adventures, and a pickup truck is something one might take off-roading. Pair the two together and the result are some fun, probably muddy video footage.

HERO4 Session teardown cracks GoPro’s latest camera

GoPro recently introduced its new GoPro HERO4 Session, a cube-shaped camera that greatly resembles Polaroid's Cube camera. The Session deviates a fair bit from the other HERO cameras. Aside from being cube-shaped, it features single-button operation and is only a fraction of the regular HERO4's size. Now the folks at iFixit have gotten their hands on the small camera, and they've given us a look inside by busting it open.

What you need to know about GoPro’s HERO4 Session

What you need to know about GoPro’s HERO4 Session

GoPro HERO4 Session launches in tiny form factor with drawbacks to match. What you're going to want to know about the GoPro HERO4 Session is what it does and what it doesn't do - because though it has the GoPro name attached, it's not going to be bringing you the same abilities as you're used do with a full-sized GoPro HERO. This device is more akin to the new Polaroid Cube+, complete with one form factor you'd easily mistake for the other. This one's not quite as cute.

GoPro HERO4 Session slims action cam but loses 4K

GoPro may have updated its action cameras recording capabilities over the years, but it's taken the arrival of the new GoPro HERO4 Session to finally slim things down. 50-percent smaller and 40-percent lighter than GoPro's existing HERO4 Black and Silver cameras, the HERO4 Session can shoot up to 1080p60 video or 8-megapixel stills and is backward-compatible with existing mounts. However, what you won't need is a case, since the Session is waterproof by design.

SpaceX GoPro shows the calmer side of a rocket launch

SpaceX GoPro shows the calmer side of a rocket launch

The forces exerted on a rocket during launch are incredible. The vibration, G forces, and friction that go along with firing off into space are very hard on equipment and people. However, once the rocket slips out of the Earth's atmosphere, things are suddenly calm and serene. This SpaceX footage is a perfect example of the serene part of a rocket launch.

This is GoPro’s crazy 16-camera Google Jump rig

GoPro has been busy lately, first showing off a spherical rig yesterday and then following up today with this, a 16-camera 360 Array to work with Google Jump. The first example of a Jump-compatible rig for recording entire panoramas of footage, the 3D-printed framework holds more than a dozen GoPro cameras and, optionally, a microphone with them, so that users can capture everything going on around them and share it on the new YouTube service.
